Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)
Primarily working with Dr. Brian Horne on turtle conservation initiatives, we were invited to help WCS co-host a Workshop in Singapore in 2011, and then help lead a group in Malaysia to learn about methods to study freshwater turtles, particularly the large river turtles (Batagur). Recently, we traveled with Brian to Myanmar to help with health surveys of Burmese Star Tortoises and train locals in radio-telemetry techniques.
Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA)
The TSA is a non-profit organization that conducts research and conservation on turtles and tortoises throughout the world. We are involved in many aspects of the TSAs programs and are currently collaborating with them on a Desert Tortoise project.
Smithsonian Institution
Dr. Fleisher and his lab are collaborating with us on the genetics associated with the Ft. Irwin Expasion project; currently they are working on paternity tests to assess if translocated tortoises assimilate into the native population.
LA County Natural History Museum
We have been working with the LA County Natural History Museum to assess the fauna of desert tortoise burrows. We have recently completed identification of more than 140 specimens of spiders that were collected over several years.
Ft. Irwin
We have conducted Desert Tortoise research at Ft. Irwin for the past 11 years. Several different projects have been conducted including an assessment of movement patterns, activity monitoring, habitat selection, and the Fort Irwin Expansion which involved the translocation of almost 600 animals off of the installation as well as studying their movements and survival.
